DARI PERIFERI MENJADI PUSAT : JEJAK PEMBANGUNAN DI NABIRE, PAPUA

Johanes Supriyono

Abstract

This article aims at describing the way in which the state throughout national developmental programs transforms Nabire, a city in the coastal area of Papua, to become a certer of growth. The state here alludes to Indonesian government. Referring to BAPPENAS’ developmental documents, this article raises the issue proposed by the government in the past in which they wanted to transform Nabire, as well as other coastal areas, to be a center of economic growth in Papua. The development at the time was conceptualized as an effort to increase economic growth. This policy then was supported by programs of constructing physical infrastructure, mobilization of human resources in the local government dan transmigration. Until 1960s, Nabire had never become a center of religion distribution and Dutch government. The center of government which was firstly located in Enarotali then was shiftted to Nabire by Indonesian government in 1996.
